Our objective is to make the best use of available skills in all parts - especially from the rural sector - of Sri Lanka to serve the needs of the fast developing hospitality industry. My experience is that there is immense untapped talent that has not been utilized effectively in this sphere. We have training methods that meet the best international standards. Under this programme we are confident of providing our trainees with the required competency and ample job opportunities both in this country and abroad. Training them is basically a matter of 'polishing rough uncut gem stones.' and gaining immense satisfaction thereby. |
It gives me great pleasure to write this message for the web site of ‘Win Stone Hotel School’. Win Stone Hotel School was started in May 2004 to fulfil a pressing need for a quality hotel school to provide training courses for the growing hospitality industry. According to the vision of the Managing Directress Iyanthi Gunewardane, who was instrumental in starting this organisation, Win Stone was never meant to be an ‘ordinary’ school. Quality of the training courses offered was a key criterion.
Great pains were taken in selecting the place for the school. An ordinary building was transformed in to a fully equipped school with complete facilities for practical training in cookery. The training kitchen was set up keeping with the highest standards.
The key personnel were very carefully selected. People with proven track records in the industry and with a wealth of experience were selected as lecturers. A lecturer selected was never to be any ordinary lecturer or a lecturer for the name sake. He had to be special. The need to provide at least a basic knowledge in English was also identified as a very vital requirement. Once again the services of highly competent persons were selected to carry out the teaching of English.
The school now offers courses in House Keeping in addition to the cookery courses. With a view of making the training a productive exercise different avenues were explored for the purpose securing employment for those who complete the training programmes. A different section to handle recruitment for the Hospitality and Leisure sector was set up recently. This is the ‘Recruitment Wing' which has been able to find placements, for over 25 students who completed their training, overseas in the hospitality industry.
Setting up of a course / s in the Engineering Trade will be undertaken in the near future.
I wish 'Win Stone School' every success. |
The upsurge in tourism has created many job opportunities in the hotel industry for trained and skilled chefs. With the opening of additional restaurants for local and foreign tourists lucrative employment is now available for motivated well trained personnel. Opportunities are also available for well paid overseas employment.
Winstone is able to provide necessary training facilities to facilitate the training need of Sri Lankan and foreign students. |
